Importing Pre-Release Logfile Sessions

This article demonstrates how to import an existing PolySync logfile session into Studio’s logfile manager. This article assumes that the logfile session has been copied to the target machine.

1. Importing logfile sessions

Any PolySync logfile session can be imported to PolySync Core as long as the SDF conforms to a few rules.

  • There must be one host defined in the SDF
  • The Configurator Interface Address field matches the polysync-license-tool’s IP Address field

1.1. Article definitions

Pre-release (PR) versions of PolySync range from version 2.0.1-pr.1 to 2.0.8-pr.8. You can use the polysync-license-tool to check the installed PolySync version.

The system SDF can be in one of two locations depending on the PolySync version.

  • For the PR8 release and earlier it is located at $PSYNC_HOME/db/psync.sdf.
  • For Core 2.0.9 and later it is located at $PSYNC_USER_HOME/config/psync.sdf.

The replay SDF can be in one of two locations depending on the PolySync version.

  • For the PR8 release and earlier it is located at $PSYNC_HOME/rnr_logs/
  • For Core 2.0.9 and later it is located at $PSYNC_USER_HOME/rnr_logs/

1.2 Assumptions

  • The source system placed a copy of the SDF (psync.sdf) in the logfile session folder
    • If the logfile session does not contain a psync.sdf file, you’ll need to copy the system SDF from the system that recorded the data
  • The log session has been copied to the target machine and has been decompressed

3. Update the SDF

The SDF needs to be updated to represent the replay environment. Distributed systems need to be consolidated to a single host to be imported with Studio.

  1. Start the SDF Configurator with the desktop icon or the command
    • polysync-core-sdf-configurator
  2. In the menu bar, select File -> Open
  3. Navigate to the logfile session that you’re importing and select the psync.sdf file─this is the replay SDF
  4. If the host wizard automatically opens with the SDF Configurator, follow the wizard to import a host configuration and/or update any missing parameters (step 3)
    • The host wizard ensures the PolySync IP address and SDF IP Address match SDF Configurator host configuration wizard
  5. Move all nodes to a single host, do not use the duplicate function
  6. Remove all hosts that do not have nodes defined, there can only be one host defined
  7. Close the SDF Configurator

3. Importing to Studio

The logfile session can now be imported using the standard import process.
